## Understanding Prefrontal Cortex

The prefrontal cortex (PFC) is the most recently evolved part of the human brain, located behind the forehead. When cortisol levels rise due to threat perception, PFC function degrades rapidly—a phenomenon sometimes called 'cortical inhibition.'
